SEWA implements preventive maintenance programme in 227 stations

SHARJAH, 21st June, 2022 (WAM) — The Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWA) has implemented an intensive programme for periodic maintenance of 227 electricity transmission stations, including 196 33-kV stations, five high pressure 220-kV stations, 26 132-kV stations, in addition to a high pressure network with a length of more than 1200 kilometres across various parts of the emirate.

The programme also included preventive maintenance of the electricity network extensions and transformers in preparation for the summer months.

Hamad Al Tunaiji, Director of the Energy Transmission Department at SEWA, confirmed that the authority is working with its full capacity to implement the directives of H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, to develop electricity networks in all regions of the emirate of Sharjah.

He explained that the programme of periodic and preventive maintenance work for power transmission stations starts annually from 1st October to 15th May so that it is performed during the winter months due to the drop in loads, which contributes to conducting maintenance work without affecting customers.

Ahmed Baniyas, Deputy Director of the Department of Energy Transmission, noted that all replacement, renewal, maintenance and modification works depend on technicians and engineers in the maintenance departments of the authority, pointing out that the application of modern maintenance concepts, which include preventive maintenance and corrective maintenance, ensures high operational efficiency with the highest levels of safety for workers and at the lowest costs.
